Here is what I have come up with so far for the user interface of Levels. When your ink gets low, you get a push notification. The history section shows how much you have spent on ink and paper the last couple months. Still much more work to do!
- Agree about the number on the bottom of the ink... just can't see it. Perhaps it should be bold and white?
- The triangle on the History area, what's that pointing at? If it's pointing at the word History, then perhaps it should be at the start of the word or the middle, or just lose it altogether?
- The month names don't have enough visual contrast compared to the number they're associated with. Try killing the border, making the month names bolder and smaller than the number, or make the numbers bolder. They just need some visual distinction there to increase visual contrast.
@Stuart L Crawford I completely agree. The numbers for the magenta and yellow are barely visible. The display I connect my laptop to when I made this didn't show it as bad but I can see it now.
@Mike Rundle Completely agree with you on the placement of the triangle for the History area. I am going to move it closer to the beginning of the word in my next draft. I see what you mean about the months, instead of attracting attention they deter it because they're not bold enough.
The caps on the meters don't look completely rounded. The red is kinda odd for low level. I can see it's low level already, perhaps a better treatment (subtle) would be more appropriate.
If this app is for ink levels, I don't think you need to have the levels icon in the bar or the bar at the top at all. I don't think you need to say "ink" or "history" either. Make it simpler. Cut out any unnecessary detail.
@Louie Mantia Thanks for helping me out. I agree that the red is pretty odd and that a more subtle, less distracting solution would be much better.
I like what you said about cutting the unnecessary details. Ink levels are self explanatory so the extra text and icons is just complicating the design.
Very cool concept!I agree with Louie and Mike above. It might also be interesting to make the ink meters look a little more like liquid instead of glowing gradients. Perhaps like a rounded glass thermometer? Just an idea. Def. keep going with this.

Really like this, only suggestion is improving readability of the number on the magenta circle somehow?
