A Toast to You

Drunk Sailor Stippling Brushes | Example #2

"In this business, the minute you get to thinking you're top dog, you quit trying and are on the way out fast."

– Sailor Jerry

One of the things I love about RetroSupply is that as we develop products I'm forced to learn new things.

This pack made me start to consider how stippling can be used.

What are traditional methods of using it?

How can I find new and interesting ways to spice up my work with it?

Then, of course, there's the magic of the brushes. Unlike real tattoo shading and stippling, our brushes aren't permanent.

You can experiment with the gradient stippling with the stroke of a brush. Then adjust it, layer it, resize it, and delete it in seconds.

As I've worked this past week I've found myself finding little ways to give my work a dose of stippling.

I hope when we release the pack it does the same for you.

This animation uses 5 different stippling brushes (plus the star stippler we made), was animated in After Effects, and obviously pays strong homage to Jerry's work.
