    While I have the same question as @Joey Pfeifer about its perceived function.

    That button/box/whatever is really nice. The subtle details on it are excellent.

    Maybe make it look inset instead of looking like a button floating above the page? Could maintain the same colors, shadows, etc, but would feel less like a target area where I feel the need to click on it.
