This is a concept I've had in mind for maps. The purple arrow is zooming though, lifting the corners of the paper.

The corner curl effect is so damn clever! For some reason though, I would like to see what this looks like with the curls evenly spaced. Although that might defeat the purpose.
Either way, I'm rambling, this is great work!

The purpose is rather the top curl takes most of the wind and the small one calms down but I can take your suggestion to evenly space them and proportionally diminishing the radius of the corners might do the trick.

I used two layers
Base - solid color> layer style: white to transparent gradient> set gradient to Soft Light
Top - Wood texture> greyscale it> set to Soft Light
tip: play with the levels of the pattern image itself to get more contrast
