At first glance, I related this to the UPS logo. But not that ugly, gradient ridden thing they use these days. The old design by Paul Rand. You know, the logo they should've kept.
That said, the colors are probably the reason I equate this to the UPS logo. Otherwise, this has its own character and feel to it, and I really like it. Great typography, a recognizable shape, and straight to the point.
Shawn makes a good point in the comments about adding a solid bar or two above the shield to tie in the military rank patch look. I wouldn't mind seeing that as an option.
I definitely see the UPS comparison. Nothing a quick tweak to color can't fix. And yup, I will absolutely take the Rand comparison as a compliment. (Whether you intended it as such or not. I'm not too picky.)
I have a few other directions that explore the whole chevron connection, so those tips are good to hear. Look for some rebounds. Thanks, everyone.
While I like the idea of the military rank imagery, I feel the balance between the type and icon would be compromised.
Additionally, I saw the UPS "connection" at first glance of the thumb as well, but I wasn't bothered by it. In fact, I thought it instantly classic and pleasing in its simplicity. Changing the color would surely aid in dividing the two, but it's my opinion that it's not being hurt with the existing palette.
Bobby: The comparison to Rand was definitely a compliment, and don't take the UPS comparison as a negative thing. It was only at first glance, as a thumbnail, and I wasn't confused for a second.
Great work as is, but I'm sure you'll be tweaking it a bit in the future. Looking forward to that.

I've done so many bee-related logos, the well is running dry. I like where this one's headed, though.
Notes: custom type, proportion between lock-up and icon remains the same in vertical and horizontal versions. Sorta neat.

Like that the proportion stays the same. Don't see that often.

Digging the mark a lot!

Liking this a lot. Just an idea- what if a solid bar or two were added at the top to resemble the rank patches on military sleeves more? https://www.mysticarmynavy.com/images/army_mug_enlisted.jpg

Love this. It definitely evokes thoughts of Rand ... which is of course an amazing complement.
