Custom logo-type solution with an industrial and utilitarian sensibility created for Czech DJ Filip Marak to represent his hard style and individual approach to performance and production. The M and A characters share parallel diagonal strokes to give the identity a sense of forward momentum while the geometric and light line weights of the letter forms deliver an underlying sense of technology, characterising Filips adoption of MIDI controllers and Ableton. A simple grey and white colour palette keeps the identity firmly focused on the music while allowing it to sit comfortably within brightly coloured environments.
I like this a lot, it's really eye catching in its simplicity and I love what you've done with the cuts. The 'M' is definitely unusual but I really like it - conceptually, it's very strong and visually, it plays an important part in the overall look of the logotype. The only thing that bugs me a little is that 'R-A' seems a little loose, but it's an inevitably awkward pairing.. If you're still working on this, would suggest nudging them slightly closer to see if it works though. Anyway, looks really good and like Daniel said, really nice description too.
Thanks for such a wonderful comment Claire! I completely agree, it does have a slight problem, I could potentially make up for it with a ligature but it would be at the expense of the mono-spacing (and thus the utilitarian aspect), (a ligature would perhaps be a superflous detail?). I will definitely nudge it over and see how it works out, technically it may not be mono-spaced but optically it could well be. Thanks again.
Yeah I agree, I imagine a ligature would add an extra element that doesn't really need to be there and potentially break the overall simplicity. I definitely think playing around a little with that spacing won't do any harm with regards to the mono-spacing, as like you said, it'll look more even optically. Really nice work again.
your descriptions read like poetry very apt that your name is Baird. I have noting to add except its quite a striking piece particularly the F and R characters. I hope you upload the logotype in action.
