The previous sketch was actually a refinment of a logo I had almost finsihed. Just needed to straighten the grid up. I went for a greyscale color scheme to emphasize the professional objectivity of the brand, as well as the timelessness of their products.

The icon is really quite nice. Two things:

    1. How does the logo function without the shadows?
    2. The type feels like an odd choice when paired with the icon. I'm not sure what to suggest, but I think you can find a stronger pairing than what you have now.

I agree with Peter, maybe you should try a stronger font, and consider how the icon would look without the shadow. There could be a slight color change between the overlapping parts.

Thanks a lot for the all great responses! Your comments helped me enormously. I agree there was something not quite right about the shadow and the font. I think this works a lot better! I'm currently working on the font. Any ideas for a typeface that would work with this symbol?
