   I like the 'selected text' design but I'm not so confident about the dark background...

   The lack of contrast between the lightning blue and the dark brackground impairs the readability. Besides the contrast between the text and the lightning blue is also not that strong.

   Going from dark to bright lets step out things, while going from bright to dark let things going inside. Now I have the feeling the text dashs at me - not so comfortable.

   With a bright (white) background I think you would enhance the readability and also create a more harmonic visual experience.
