    In an exercise to get me more motivated and general improve my skills, I planning on redesigning a few apps that I regularly use but wish so damn much they were better looking. The first is Beejive, I've genuinely never found an IM app I like with as many features but I feel for the price tag it really shouldn't be so hideous.

    I'd suggest a blueish bottombar though and maybe try glossy speech bubbles.
    You were talking about "screenshot" in the chat view, so does it actually work or did you take a screenshot where you could "draw" onto?

    I'd remove the honeycomb pattern from the UINavigationBar and would urge you to look at these views on a retina display device to see if the separators between your table cells are too subtle at 1px . Certainly keep your lighting effects subtle and don't double them to 2px without a 1px spread, but you should consider 2px table cell separators.

    I'd also suggest making your custom detail disclosure indicators (the encapsulated chevrons in contact list table cells that go to the detail view for that contact) less flat.

    This is coming along nicely otherwise.

    @Taylor: The separators look fine on the device, I design all my UI's with LiveView on pretty much constantly to get an idea of what works and what doesn't on the device. That's also the reason why some of the lighting effects don't have a 1px spread as it simply makes them too soft and not particularly visible on the device :)
