My ideal iPhone accessory!
I hate digital buttons, this will be an immediate buy! Should we start a funding round on Kickstarter? :)
Update Unfortunately Kickstarter only allows US-based accounts, also I have zero knowledge of hardware design and iOS frameworks, actively looking for some help on this! Feel free to follow and contact me on Twitter
Update 2 I am already aware of iCade and Razer's Project Fiona. There are elements missing out from the shot (and from those devices for that matter) that will be made public once this idea advances to the next stage.
Thanks for the amazing response, keep them coming! :)
Would be very cool if the two controller parts were to lock together when not in use. Other than that it'd need a speaker to replace the headphone socket and maybe 4 buttons over the two.
From a technical standpoint I imagine you could use the headphone socket to transmit data the same way Jawbone's UP does. However, this would require the game to support it.
Other solution is possibly using the lower section as a signal receiver for the top section.
Harry, super idea! That would work nicely!
Glenn, exactly right, that's why I included the little jack in the view above, there seems to be issues with passing data and audio at the same time though.
Dave I have seen that device before but while it might works great for iPads it doesn't seems to be very comfortable when trying to play on the go, something like a PSP or NDS.
Dean yeah maybe so, I took inspiration from the orignal NES controller :)

Brilliant! On-screen buttons don't offer the tactile feedback of real buttons. This is a great solution.

Has nobody seen http://www.60beat.com/category_s/73.htm ?? The limitation is on supported games. Hoping devs adopt functionality for this controller.

YES. WANT.
(I do feel it would make more sense to put A in the upper right and B in the lower left, no?)
