Thought it was time for a refresh. Thought about making the date "SINCE 1983", the year I was born... Thought it would be funny, but chickened out at the last moment.
im gonna start a firm called "Real Fancy" and ill use your mark. you know my email, if you can send the AI files, ill give you TWO strong pats on the back!
Nice and simple. Would make a great embossing, stamp, or letterpress impression.
One thing though, putting that ampersand where you have it causes "Design" to shift left, thereby optically disrupting the otherwise nicely balanced symmetry you have going on.
You probably have already tried it, but what about putting "Design" and "Illustration" on one line, separated by a bullet? The bullet would help cut down on horizontal space. To make this one line of text a balanced horizontal counterpart to the "Ryan Feerer" line, you'll probably need to shrink down the type size, tighten up the tracking, or use a more condensed/compressed typeface.
A little side effect of doing this would be that the resulting curves + your head in the middle could also be seen to represent an eye shape. This "artist's eye" metaphor could add a deeper level of iconography to your mark.
If you do decide to do something like this, make sure that you keep "Since 2005" smaller than "Design & Illustration," since that info is last in the hierarchy.
@Jon Thank you so much for all the feedback! I actually did try it on one line. The problem was that it started to read as an eye... but not in the cool "artist's eye" way... unfortunately. Also I felt like the bottom needed to be weighted down some. It created an awkward tension between the different type. Totally agree about making the point size of Since 2005 smaller. Good eye! Cheers!
