Trying to decide how to balance this board design. I prefer the top when viewed on its own, but after accounting for the trucks, I'm not so sure (hence the bottom variation).

And yes, I know the blue of "seagull" doesn't quite match either of the wave blues — will be fixed before finalizing.

I personally like the board 2. I would want to be able to read the text instead of wondering what it said.

As a skateboarder for many years, i hate when 1. the logo is under the trucks, and 2. when the logo is in the center of the board. Reason being for the center one, is thats the part of the board that is first to get completely scratched up. I preferred skateboards where the logo was in one of these two places as they don't get AS scratched up.

i agree with bennie, i think the second one is better. Once the board straps in, he'll still be able to view the brands logo

I think the second position is better since the logo should be visible when trucks are installed. i agree with Sean about placement and orientation. the closer to the trucks, the less likely the logo will get scratched off right away.

I am going to dissent and vote for #1, but make the logo bigger to fill more of the space on the left.

I'm goofy footed so arranging the deck this way makes more sense (right side forward) for me. If I stopped and flipped the board upside-down, the text would be in correct orientation for reading and direction of travel.

The logo falls under the trucks better after reversing the wave. I'd raise the crest a little higher instead of just grazing the attachment too.

I'd go with Board 3: move it even more to the right, maybe shrink it down just a bit, so that there's a margin between the text and the truck frame. Makes it easier to see and read the text when the board is in the air.

My vote is for #1. As someone who skated for nearly 13 years, I've never really seen boards that cater to the setup unless it worked them into the design. Besides, the graphic is going to get all scratched off in #2 anyway...

How I love seagulls. This is looking mad amazing!
I'd go for option two or three — whatever that enables me to view the whole piece after it's printed.

By the way, you should consider listening to this while skating! ;)

Really like this board design. Is it gonna be a real board? I love how simple, clean and cool it is.

@Rogie: Yes sir, this will be a real board. Working on a few other designs at the moment (all Black Seagull), but using this one to work out the whole "should I even bother worrying about the truck position" thing ;)

Opinions seem to be fairly varied, even from long-time skaters, so I might just spread the ideas across different designs so there's something to appeal to different tastes.

I wouldn't worry too much about the truck positioning. Most designs on boards the truck base covers the design. I think it looks dope no matter what, great job man!

When I skated, I always did a crappy job at taping the deck. In this perfect world, this deck comes pre-taped with 3-color grip-tape.

As a skater, I would like the design with the logo showing even with the trucks on. I know lots of people just buy skateboards now days and hang them on the wall, but not I said the fly.

BTW, who are you using the print these boards?

@Joel: I'm still experimenting with designs, so have been planning to try BoardPusher and Zazzle to start, but only because try are the on-demand deck shops people keep mentioning.

Yeah, I've been using Deckpeck for a while - almost since they started. They had a free setup for the longest time, but moved to a monthly payment structure recently to host a shop. But they've got some real issues with their business right now, so I can't say I recommend them. I checked out Zazzle before, and may reconsider them.

Yeah, BoardPusher is pretty good. Zazzle i haven't actually ordered from yet, and i've loved deckpeck for the longest time as well, since they made wheels. So i ordered some wheels from them about two years ago. I've called them multiple times about it, because i don't want a refund, i want the wheels. "It's coming". "You didn't get them?". "Well, we shipped them.", etc.
