for the past 4 months i've been trying to loose some weight. the hardest part was finding a way that fit into my "always at computer desk" lifestyle so i ended up creating my own special diet. low and behold it worked. in less than 4 months i went from 196 - 154lbs. that's not even the best part. i also calmed my gastritis. i suffer from extreme acid reflux and was diagnosed with gastritis/gerd about 7 months ago. i was in and out of the doctor and hospital for a lot of that 3 months trying to figure out what the heck was wrong with me. after one last panic attack and late night trip to the er, i decided i needed to figure out how to control this thing.
it took about a month to create some recipes that i could tell worked and lots of trial and error to see what i could and couldn't eat due to my gastritis. but for the past 4 months, i figured out a pretty rad diet that anyone can do and best of all it's wicked tasty and i never once stepped foot in the gym although i surf frequently, which is a pretty epic workout.
not only did i lose the weight and got back to my normal weight, i also gained muscle, got lean and most important of all...i "calmed" my gastritis. if anyone out there knows what it's like to suffer from that, you'll know how stoked i am to have it calmed.
anyways, i've taken tons of notes on my progress and i'm about to share it all with others on how to lose weight and manage your day as workaholics and also tons of insight for people that suffer from the slightest heartburn to extreme gastritis/gerd like myself. i'm stoked to share what i've learned with everyone soon and hopefully it helps someone else as much as it did me!
matt, sorry to hear bro. good thing is...it can be calmed!! i had it severe. hope i get to teach you a few tricks to managing it brother! i know how bad it sucks to have it.
I can relate, Dann... before I moved to Whistler and adopted a more active lifestyle, I weighed something in the area of 220lbs.... I'm now down to 190 due to regular exercise and a better diet, but I still want to lose more. The biggest issue for me - like you - is that I sit down all day... It's bad for the heart and inevitably your mind. Some have suggested that standing-up while at work is your best solution.... enter the standing worktop: http://www.steelcase.com/en/products/category/tables/adjustable/airtouch/pages/overview.aspx .... expensive, but you can bet the quality is superb.
owen, that'd be a nice addition to the office for sure. have you seen what they do at the milk inc offices? they have a desk like that which sits on top of a treadmill so you can walk a few miles while checking your email. pretty dope.
I hope that all you guys will be ok. It's so great that you share such a story with us. I'm looking forward to read about this diet. Hold on guys and create beautiful things!
Well i worked out for about 5 months in the gym to get in shape, i would love to hear it out on how to be in shape while always sticking with the PC :)
Looks good, congrats! I was also a desk-junkie and managed to lose a lot of weight last year. But as always, it's nog about the end-result, it's about the journey. Imho, good food and exercise must be combined. You need to get up every day and work out. It's good for your mind and body and will make you more productive, focussed and stress-free whenever you are sitting down.
For the desk-sitters out there, you could consider getting an exercise ball to sit on for part of the day. It strengthens the core and makes you sit up right. Seems to me that's more comfortable than running on a treadmill ;)
Hah going to go out on a limb here and ask about your symptoms because, I swear I have the same thing but have not been diagnosed.
I am also at the comp 24/8 thanks to work, and have this really nagging feeling in my lower left rib area... sometimes its sore, other times its a mild ache, seems to be worse when im sitting down or have been for a long time. I went to the doctor about it and he examined me - said it was probably just a strained muscle, and nothing to worry about. (this was 6 months ago, and I still feel it)

sitting is the worse thing a human can do.

If you check at the bottom of that product page, there are treadmill workstations as well.

It's great that you take the time and are willing to share stuff like this. Thanks!
I find it requires constant effort to battle the effects of a sedentary work lifestyle.
I also have ongoing heartburn issues that vary with changes in diet & exercise levels. Right now, straight after Christmas, it's not good!
So definitely interested in checking out your solution.
