I agree with Ryan that the diamonds are sick after a second look.
But some part of my brain likes the circles since they come similar to the gas mask goggles.

I like the diamonds because the diameter and circumference of the circles clash a little with the oval-ness of the gas mask goggles. The diamonds provide a nice contrast to the goggles.
You could use them both on different pages as background elements to separate the different pages and provide some nice pacing. Just a thought.

@Koma... They describe it as 'Active Rock' but I just called it rock. they did want a post-apocalyptic feel so looks like in the right direction. @Aaron..argyle rules! haha

The diamond shape gives it more of a "hazardous" feel compared to having circles, it makes me think that it symbolizes gases or flames rising.
