Reader App Idea in Full

A bit of a disclaimer first: This is not a client project, It's just an Idea I had and a bit of fun on my part over the holidays. I know there are already amazing feed reader apps out there but I'm a designer so once I have an idea I run with it. I'm not a hardcore feed junkie but I do vist the a lot of blogs and just skim over them. This is that behaviour in an iPad app.

The concept works on the same behaviours as the new Facebook/Path app interaction. Sections on the left and right with the main content covering them unless swiped (or tap the icon) to uncover them.

Left is all where you manage all your feeds, add new ones ect and the right area is where you can get to articles and posts you have bookmarked and want to read later.

A two finger swipe down on an the reading area would uncover the reading options. Day and night time reading mode, Sans Serif/Seif choice and text size.

Take a look at all the attachments.

    So yeah...

Awesome! Love the two finger swipe for options. It would be cool if you could select each head topic to read as well. Select "Design" and you would get either a grid or list view of mixed articles from the design feeds you subscribe to.

Looking really good, and it would be easy (and awesome) to make multiple themes variations with a simple UI like that.

    I want this. It's perfect.

I haven't got much to add, critique-wise, except that the "Add a new website" button should probably read "Add a new feed". But that's just me being pedantic.

    Looking really nice!

Not sure I am a fan of the options having the reverse gradient like that. Seems like the side menu sits higher on the page, and the options don't really stand out. But it could just be from the photo and when using it I'm assuming it would animate so it might be more obvious in context with using the app.

Anyhow looks really nice, would love to use it when it gets built.

Love this. Font size looks slightly bigger than other reader apps, which is good. Is the 'add new site' button set to be fixed, or would it scroll down/up according to the length of the reading list?

I really liked Luke's idea and the UI of his reader app, so I had a play around at an icon and login screen, best viewed on an iPad ;)

I've started to think about branding and a name "Skimn" for my reader app idea as the the wonderful Nicholas L. Eby is on board to turn it into a reality. The previews so far have been awesome, he is a wizard.

Does this say Skimm or Skimn to you? Name idea is that you skim through your feeds.
