A beach ball icon for a new app we’ve been working on for quite a while. I think designers are going to really like this one. The 512×512 pixel version might be worth checking out—the text is readable and details are easier to see.
There is one thing I’m not sure about on this icon: Should the icon be perfectly round, or more natural (as shown)?

@Jord and Dan: So that's one vote for round and one vote for realistic/wobbly. You're not making this any easier!
@Max: I've just run the app here and it bounces once. I think apps always bounce once on launch, even if they're tiny and you have and SSD (I have an SSD here).

Top part of ball looks excellent. Something feels wrong at the bottom. Maybe because of shading/highlights, dunno, looks not so real in comparsion to the top. Need to check some. photo. refs
And I'm for “natural” version (at small sizes it'll look round anyway)

@Kamil Khadeyev: I definitely agree that it won't make much difference when the icon is small. It will be effectively round. I'll take a look into the shading, although the differences to the reference seem like they're more to do with lighting? Ie. if you wanted to light a beach ball and give it darker shading, that would be possible. I might still back it off a bit, I'm just trying to make sure the shape is kept, so it doesn't look too flat.

Very nice work, I already need the app! Regarding the icon, I think the tissue ball look far more better than a plastic ball. I only wonder how it looks in small docks.

I think this looks great. You've really kicked a goal here. Love the detail on the seams of each colour edge. Well done.

I'd vote perfectly round. At the moment it looks a tiny bit deflated, if it was fully inflated it would be almost perfectly round anyway.

The wobbly shape makes it look like it lacks a bit of air. The bottom lighting may use some work too. Lovely work nonetheless, whatever that is for. :)
