Hmm. I don't think it is a mistake. They tried to imitate some kind of anisotropic material, so it's more or less accurate.
But nevertheless I like your solution more, too. Would love to replace it :)

I don't think it's a mistake either. It's just like the metal was dug so I think the radial should be here, but maybe less opaque though.

I think it all depends on if the finish is brushed or glossy. I do think the flat no-radial looks better. ^_^
