Yes, I know leather headers and torn pages are quite boring and out-of-date, but I thought it worked really well with the calendar module in the new web app startup I'll be fully involved with from January 2012 and onwards.
Yeah it looks slightly odd, but that's only because the 'Create New Item' panel is open - it pushes the calendar down. The normal state is that the torn pages are directly under the leather header.
KS: Agree, the stitches don't look that realistic. The creative director has specifically said that we shouldn't fall too far into the photo realism trap. I did play around with making the stitches a little uneven, but I lost that "clean" feeling, and the stitches drew too much attention. =)
very nicelly done. I don't thing leather headers and torn paper are boring or untrendy at all :)
As for the stitches, maybe you should remove them if you want to keep a non photo realistic feeling. They look a little off right now and just a plain double stroke separation could be enough.
JS: I just mean that we shouldn't reach complete photo realism, but keep it more like stylised realism. Realistic stitches were too distracting, but I might try making the stitches more realistic but in a black colour instead so they aren't drawing too much attention.

Agree. Well executed.

I like the leather texture! But for me the torn pages and the calender page should be the same colors. The white is a little bit too strong for me.

Looks very nice. The only thing that you could improve is the realism of the stiches. Other than that - just plain awesome

Who cares what's trendy, it just looks plain nice. That's what matters. Nicely done. Just needs some stitching tweaks.
