An animated gif that mimics what the animation for this specific element in our new portfolio will look like (in our portfolio single pages the animations will have a scrolling parallax effect). The element you're looking at is abstracted from the Basketball Stats PRO iPad app we designed.
Nope, I think parallax doesn't necessarily refers to huge backgrounds overlaying each other, rather to the suggestion of movement based on the scrolling position of elements within a browser viewport ;)
Parallax refers to difference in position of object viewed along two different lines of sight and is used to measure and percieve depth the less the object moves (or is displaced), the further from the camera it is. When used in 'huge backgrounds', the elements' depth is mimicked by different speeds. I had to help myself with this Wikipedia article to find some of the correct english words.
So this is only animation (without Parallax effect), but very nice nonetheless.
I think the definition of parallax nowadays in website usage isn't bound to that any longer. I know it derives from two backgrounds running along one another in different speeds. Yet when the background is white and the animation isn't a large foreground (but like in this case small rows), it's not called a parallax effect, while the essence is very similar. Any ways, perhaps this is a discussion that's meant for some developer forum :p
