Generally, I really like it. Love the squares background behind the buttons, and the colours. The only thing I'm not sure about is the little lines you have in the 'b'. I know they're part of the logo but at that scale I don't think they work. Looking forward to seeing more!
Shaun: Part of the reason for this is to include the new thumbnail view mode, which will indeed keep the focus on the patterns ;)
Also to minimize the height of the top part of the site and lift the content up.
Anders: I'll add more depth to the design for sure, I just need to settle on the menu first. Not sure if I'll keep the tabs that way.
The icon/logo within the b is lost at this size. I think if it's needs to stay then a different implementation is required. Also adding the texture of the bar to the tabs would look more consistant.
I agree with Kean, adding a texture to the buttons with definitely make the look of the buttons feel more consistant. Also I think you maybe adding a subtle shadow to them would add a little depth.

Trying something new on subtlepatterns.com, but I'm not sure how I feel about it. Any thoughts are welcome!

How about a subtle drop shadow over the buttons, to add some more depth?

Love the simplicity of the current site much better. Keep it light with a focus on the textures =]

Otherwise looks like a good overall improvement

But does it serve it's purpose?
I think maybe it's a bit too much. I love the fact that the patterns stand out from a more neutral overall design. But that's me... :)
