The book needs to feel more like a book. i.e. I think it needs some depth. Kind of like you have with the map - which incidentally probably doesn't need any depth.
Have you tried adding some texture? Maybe lines on the book to represent words or grid lines or contours on the map? I realise these won't render at a small size but might help?
Finally it think it's feels just a touch too deep on the z-axis. It's making it look deeper than it is wider - which feels a little odd.
