Be a 2017 Google intern!

Another year, another intern season! Are you interested in becoming a motion design intern at Google?

My team is hiring (at the very last minute) one talented motion design intern for the Summer 2017 season. If that’s you, we would would work directly together across many teams within Google, including those working on Allo, Duo, Messenger, Voice, Dialer and Project Fi, to help bring animations based on the new Material Design motion language to future app releases. Since our teams are spread out across the west coast, you would be working from a two different locations. Half of your internship would be in Mountain View, CA at Google’s main campus, otherwise known as the Googleplex. The other half would be in our fancy new office in Kirkland, WA.

Intrigued? Here’s what you need to know:

You must currently be enrolled in a full-time degree both before and after the internship (either pursuing a BS or MS). The degree should be in some arts-related field. You must have a strong understanding of Adobe After Effects (working with 2D and character animation is a huge plus, and even more so with UI motion design).

Google has a strong relocation program in place for the entirety of the 12-14 week internship, which begins in May. The interviewing process has already begun and we’re hoping to wrap this up within a couple of weeks.

With that said, let’s see what you’ve got! If you meet the qualifications above, send a link to your portfolio and a quick word about yourself to motionintern@google.com – I’ll personally be reviewing every submission, and we’ll be in touch if you’re a good fit. Since this is so late in the hiring process the official job posting won’t allow anymore applicants, so I’m relying on the talent of fellow Dribbblers to spread the word and fill this spot!

And while it obviously depends on the individual’s performance, I can proudly say that the winner of my previous call for interns absolutely killed it during his internship and was offered a full-time position after graduation. This is the real deal!

To keep the creative mind flowing, feel free to post a rebound showing off your Material Design-inspired animation skills! It’s not required to apply and is in no way apart of the interview process, but it would certainly be fun see just how you could apply your skills here at Google!

What’s it like being an intern at Google? Watch this (no, it’s not a link to the movie, The Internship).

Also, check out the recently updated Material Design motion guidelines.

I spoke at I/O 2016 about these motion guidelines, too.
