I wish Skype looked like this. The thing that bothers me the most about the current version is that the text chat is under the video, rather than beside it. You either have a tiny video and a decent-sized chat, or one line of chat and a decent-sized video.

You know that Skype have a mac redesign competition where they give you the css template to modify for the chat....MAKE THIS!

I am currently mocking something like this up for my vision of iMessage for Mac!
I was envisioning it built into finder. No apps to download, or services to sign-up for, just use your Apple ID. Exact feature set as iMessage currently has.

Very nice & clean ui! Really like it... I'm wondering - have you tried getting rid of user names in chat window? I mean that you probably know all of your contact so you're probably able to recognize them with avatar or even with two messages from chat history, aren't you? You could add some dark tooltip with user name after hovering the avatar for example... Another idea is to remove timestamp and to display it only after hovering the message (some adium styles have it). With these two updates you could have even cleaner messages area... What do you think?

This is really looking awesome Matthew. I really hope that Skype bumps on this design and starts using it right away with your permission of course ;-) Do you mind sharing that desktop background? It looks awesome.
@ludwiczakpawel That's a good idea if your friends have avatars set. But what if they haven't? I wouldn't be able to recognize them without avatar ;-)
