I was convinced that flat (left) was the way to go. Then I accidentally applied the layer styles from some of my buttons (see the other shots in this project)…not sure what I prefer now.
If the design works fine without affectations, why add them?
What do you think?
edit: if it wasn't clear enough, I've just duplicated the whole widget on the right - it's not overlapping in the app. I think you got that though?
Flat for me as well. I don't mind the bezel on the text (on the white text, not the grey text). But if you kept that it would need to be way lighter an effect. Maybe drop the bezel opacity to about 10-15%.
Well I've been told! I think with the submit button you should keep the gradient, makes it look more inviting and there is the opportunity for more exciting hover effects than if it were flat.
George, gradients offer a lot of possibilities but in this case, all the rest of the design looks flat. I think we should stick to that for the rest of the UI.
I actually think the stroke on the orange boxes are a really nice detail. The drop shadow and gradients says 'click me' (should it feel raised and curved? Is it a button?)

Stay true, go left.
Shadows and gradients are not needed here.

Much prefer without. Texture can be nice to add dimension and hierarchy, but with this style I think the bright orange does that job nicely by itself

Prefer flat, it's cleaner, makes it more effective.

Between the two though, go flat.

Flat it is, thanks for all the feedback :). How about the gradients in other UI elements? Can I get away with the submit button and tags here: http://dribbble.com/shots/323282-Form-Elements-Fix ?

Hey Jon, you might want to make sure the 2 small columns and the "total ideas" block have the same width, otherwise this looks really good!
Keep it flat :)
