   Date pickers a clear usability win... typing in dates is a pain, and there's always the issue of getting your date in the right format for the system. I feel like "Select your country" form elements are still a bit of a nightmare. This borrows from the date picker idea and applies it to a country select box.

   This is interesting...but is this possible to implement with Javascript (or something else)? With Flash its probably a cinch.

   I'm not sure about the exact implementation, but I'm sure it could be done with JavaScript.

   Ideally there would also be in IP check so if you were from Europe for example, it'd already be zoomed in to Europe.

   Narrowing things down with an IP check sounds good. Maybe you could work with the Google maps API for the functionality?
