@musHo I tried to make it look like a glas/plastic bar where the text is a bit engraved and it casts a shadow on the background. Maybe that's why it looks a bit "dirty".
You know, like those rulers you used in school: Image. Not recognizable enough?
The main issue I had with it at first glance was the text doesn't look like its engraved if you're going for the clear ruler look. The shadow makes it look like its sitting above the surface. I'm not sure why the close button's shadows are opposite the “rulers” either...
Whats with the "Oh no it does not look like everything else that is trendy right now, add some grain and texture so it looks like apple designed it" around here lately?
I have to say that it is nice to see something different once in a while. The yellow nav bar and button caught my eye and I can see this turn out to something really nice. Just needs a little bit of typography work and polishes here and there. Nice choice of colors as well.
Interesting idea. I certainly approve of trying something difference.
I think it would look more natural with slightly more diffuse shadows, highlights on the corners, and stronger engraving for the text (dark inner shadow at the top). Also, the light bouncing around inside the bar would result in a light glow near the bottom instead of the dark shadow you have now.
You might want to play around with a 3D package (Blender should be fine for this) and render a semi-transparant bar with ambient occlusion shading turned on.
Yup.. the thing is with trying to imitate real world objects/materials. Either you get it perfectly right or you rather go back into fiction. I guess a "somewhat close" is still worse than not using it at all.
We'll see.. I might try to tweak it a bit more or maybe go for something more simple.
I don't think the font is doing you any favours - it just doesn't work for me!
I really like the yellow gradient on top of the second bar, nice attention to detail, the shadows on the bars look good too :)
Stick with the idea - I think it's great. My own suggestion would be to exaggerate it as much as possible. I didn't read the objects as "glass" or "plastic" at all - instead to me they look like opaque objects with text hovering on top. Give them some sheen! Maybe the textured background shouldn't show through as much? Keep up the good work!

I get the metaphor, i think it comes across clearly, but I don't know that I like it very much.

I think @Anthony is onto something there... I would break from reality a bit and take all those grey shadows and give them some colour.
not the best example but:

hope that helps!

@Gui Seiz Hmm.. Ya, that looks a bit off.. is this a special OS? Or different language settings. Interesting that the names are ok.
