Yep works for me! Perhaps you could make the white text sit on top of the texture with a subtle drop shadow and the grey inset with an inner shadow?

I would just like to remark on the fact that you really allowed the navigation to breathe by affording the text so much padding. Excellent decision.
Also a fan of the textures.

That is indeed a very nice texture! Is it available somewhere for download, or did he gave it to you as a personal favor?
I can't help but feel that the highlights between the buttons are wrong. I'd switch them to be the shadow on top, then highlight below.
