Exploring a "widget" state for apps on iPad, so that you can perform common tasks w/o having to go into an app.
- AIM might show a buddy list.
- Music might show album art and player.
- Maps might show recent locations.
- Evernote could show recent notes or allow for quick note taking.
- Etc.
That's a really interesting idea. It immediately reminded me of QuickLook on OSX. Although while this seems convent, it could ruin the simplicity of the home screen.
I agree. I just frequently find myself doing quick little interactions that launching the whole app seems so heavy. Android has widgets that kind of eliminate that.
I think that’s the best way to implement widgets. Really cool idea!
I don’t think it could ruin the simplicity of the home screen. It feels like the multitasking app-switcher: You don’t need to use it. It’s just there but you don’t see it if you are not using it.
But how to active/open a widget? Press or Hold are already taken.
