Hm. Why not put the error popup to the left of the field? Should make things a bit less cluttered (and it also would allow displaying both Username and Password errors at the same time if needed).
@Sam Mularczyk I agree... This was done on my notebook and it was fine there, but now when I look it on my Dell at work the contrast is really poor :(
I must stop working at home :D

Haha, I find laptop displays can be quite different to desktops. I have my home PC set to minimum brightness, otherwise it kills my eyes.
