    old rules? how about user friendliness, recognizability, scalability,simplicity, semiotics, iconic value, golden ratio, they are all so outdated, hell yeah, let's throw it away 'cause it's 21 century and do some cool illustrations and call them logos. Wait a minute why is apple logo so popular? Even though it's based on old rules and, according to you, is outdated? Hm, maybe because your theory doesn't work?

    @Olga, I think that what @Brandberry is saying is that now that we have brands that live entirely online, and the only presence that they have is on a screen that it opens up a lot of different possibilities of what a logo can be. On screen you don't have to worry so much about scalability. You do still need to keep all of the things that you mentioned in mind, but there is so much more that you can do with an online brand that isn't applicable to a more "traditional" brand.
