I created this pop up user search & edit pop-up for an Army HelpDesk web application.

Is this web app going to have a lot of users? Because I can't imagine a drop-down menu with 50+ users being a pleasure to select from.

In the pressed state it looks like the button is moved and not just pressed.

I would also try to get the dropdown box centered (Vertically).

I'd expect the avatar box to drop a slight shadow as well, considering the ribbon is going behind it.

I'd double check the text on your buttons as well as they don't all look vertically centered.

Other than that it's nice to look at and seems to be quite snappy.

Jorde, thanks so much for the awesome feedback… This version uses a drop-down but the live version uses an autosuggest jQuery drop-down called “Chosen

The site is optimized for Internet Explorer 7 & 8 (what they use mostly and the DoD). I recorded this video in Safari because I don't have Internet Explorer at home. So things like positioning and button states do look a little different.

    Thanks again!

If I were you, I'd put aside the UI polish for a second and count the number of times you need to click or drag your mouse to different corners of the screen to execute the most common operations.

The edit ribbon felt disconnected from the rest of the content, I didn't even notice it first. Is there a particular reason it needs to be on a ribbon? Usually ribbons are used to tuck away secondary commands. If editing is going to be a super-secondary operation, then the choice of ribbon makes sense.

But I'm not convinced that the main action buttons in the editing mode (save, cancel) need to be ribbons. The save icon looked like a refresh button to me (I know it's a hard bit to tackle, the diskette icon doesn't make sense anymore), and I wasn't sure if the second one meant "cancel this edit" or "delete this card".

I'm a fan of interfaces where you click on the field to edit things in place. Have you ever explored that option?

    Thanks for the feedback @Cemre...

This is a zoomed in perspective, in my opinion once you open the "Find User" panel you just have to move the mouse down to select user, click go, and if you want to edit you move the mouse down a bit further. Not all users will have editing capabilities so that is why I tucked that on a ribbon underneath.

I used ribbon buttons in a few other locations on the site and I received positive feedback, but I agree with the icon suggestions though...

    Thanks a lot!
