Short Story 006: Get Better by Being Less Responsible

Let’s face it, too much responsibility can be suffocating. As designers we put so much responsibility on ourselves because whether or not we want to admit it we all have a Superhero Syndrome to some degree. It’s not a bad thing. It’s just our nature.

Our industry changes daily and staying sharp is a big responsibility on all of us who want to stay in it. What was once a more objective-focused industry has now exploded into an array of vibrant new job types for designers and along with those shiny new jobs comes shiny new tools. My God. The Tools.

With all of these options we are reaching an era of Choice Anxiety and if we aren’t careful with the new tools we choose to adopt into our work the responsibilities they bring can quickly become a double-edged sword.
