   I know I'm not as good as the legendary Matt Stevens, but I sure love his style. I'd also like to thank Matt as he is my inspiration :)

   Okay, so what you see here is an illustration I made for my colleague, and what he wanted was a metaphor for something about 'Building Universes'. I came up with a rocket and a hammer logo, and I decided to jazz it up a bit with Matt Steven's 50's catalog style.

   I agree with Nathan. It's right there with Matt. If you put the two side by side for someone who wasn't familiar with them, they'd think it was from the same person.

   I dig the lighting on the hammer. There's nothing wrong with emulating other styles as a tribute or for learning. Mr. Stevens himself has done this.

   Really nice work. Love it.

   One thing I noticed when I was researching to do mine is that the outline, line quality varies a bit. These were all done by hand back in that time period, so I tried to vary the line weights with some thicks and thins. Make a little more random and messy, looks less computer generated that way.
