Mixed feelings about this one. I love the look of overlapping letters, but the overall concept is a little shaky. Plus, the N feels a bit orphaned over on the right. Also, the treatment doesn't quite match the overall goals of the church itself. Thought at the very least it would make a good shot.
Yeah, I kind of knew that while I was designing it. It began as a concept: "What if the letters were all hiding each other?" But the execution does look rather metal-esque. :)
This reminds me a lot of the video game HAZE. It has a militant feel, probably due to the stencil-ish type treatment. I do really like the super-deep purple and desaturated yellow color choices. It really pops.
Yeah, I was going to say, it feels like Haven is a sci fi movie title. Now, when I think baptist church, I sure don't think sci fi. I certainly think dancing with snakes. Just not plasma grenades n stuff.
Oddly enough, this actually looks like it would fit right in with a church youth group. They typically try to differentiate themselves from the "older" congregation by trying to look "edgy" or "cool". Of course, I have to put everything in "quotes" because it almost never works. But still, you might be well served by continuing this train of thought, and see if you can find something that youth can use to identify themselves, at least somewhat independently from the rest of the church.

A haven is supposed to be inviting and warm. This feels very sharp, and edgy. So in my opinion, the visual cues are in opposition to the word meaning.
That being said, from a visual perspective, this is awesome... and the detail is great. I don't think the N is too isolated.

It reminds me of an 80s metal band!

I think it is awesome too. Just maybe not for a church.

What Doug said.
This design would go great for some kind of a poorly made action/thriller called "Raven. The Black squad" or something.

I agree with Meredith. But I do love it.

I really like this logo, but I feel that maybe it isn't very warm and welcoming like the previous one.

I think doug might be right. It seems a bit hard edged for a church that is supposed to be a safe place.
