The Zoning Zone

"What makes Harvard Square look and feel like Harvard Square?

Zoning is a key tool used to define the physical properties of places, and zoning has definitely shaped Harvard Square.

In this drawing, you can find some iconic Harvard Square architecture alongside some things that aren’t allowed, at least not according to Cambridge’s zoning code."

This is an illustration I've been working on for a master planning project. It is part of a series called "The Zoning Zone" where an iconic location's zoning regulations are examined and illustrated in a sort of hide-and-seek game. In the illustration, there are a few forbidden things (according to zoning laws) hidden amongst existing structures. The first illustration in this series examines Harvard Square.

Also, a huge thank you to @Jacob Koesterich for the invite!
