Turns out that once you have your basic platforming physics in place it's pretty easy to tweak the variables to create swimming physics.
The hardest part was probably getting Swimeo to exit the water easily and consistently. It eventually took treating the top row of water as a different type of tile with its own unique physics.
The 2-bit Swimeo sprite (the only one I've done so far) is adorable. I'll share once I complete the others. In the meantime, here's another blurry video with me rambling. Again, for the time being, Dribbble eyes only please.
The red and blue in this shot are from the invisible Ground layer used for collision detection and physics context switches.
