I did this oil painting on a commission (the theme is for children) yesterday and I didn't sleep because I just had to finish it. Today of course I feel like I partied all night, in a bad way, but here it is! Process can be checked out on Flickr.

Alex, it took 2 weeks to come up with a sketch I liked within the turtle theme and get around to painting it, but of course I was doing a million other things at the same time. The painting itself happened last night and this morning, I took breaks to post the process photos. Once I can picture something I like in my mind -- I know it's going to work. Coming up with something I actually like is always the hardest part.

Definitely had to look at the Flickr photo for the the details. The colors are wonderful as are the textures. Oh and the sky! Very pretty.
My only concern is the mountain. It looks rather stylized to me. I actually thought it was a small rock formation until I looked at your process shots.

Corinne Thank you and I see your point, I definitely did stylize it a lot, but none of the image is meant to be photo-real... it's more dreamlike, so I think I'm ok with that :) I wanted to stay away from the typical beach imagery and make something that could be a tired subject fresh and imaginative.
