   Might be a non-issue once the site is full-size, but do you think it might be worth having the download button above the image content as well as below?

   I thought about that but came up with an alternative. If I had the download button above, that assumes people already want to download it without having seen it and below means scrolling down so I plan to have the image preview linked to the download too so people can click that if they wish.

   As you mention though, when viewing at full size, the download button will be in view most of the time. Especially when the preview is roughly centered.
