Thanks for the feedback, Philip. I have a hard time making glares that seem realistic.
Anyway, I abandoned the "frosted glass" idea and just went for "ambiguous other material" and made it fit with the relief metaphor like I used on the logo. I'll post an update when I get a little further.
Any updates on this? I remember shooting some tips on frosted glass your way via Twitter back in the day before I was on Dribbble. Curious to see how this turned out!
Thanks for the follow-up :) As I mentioned above, I took it in a slightly different direction. You might be able to call it "fully-opaque frosted glass". You suggested adding the noise, right, Gareth? That worked very well. I'll post a follow-up shot soon.
As mentioned in comments on the precursor to this rebound, I abandoned the transparency idea and went with an opaque frosted look. I can't say that it accurately represents any specific real-world material, but it doesn't entirely matter.
In this shot, you see the lower right portion of the homepage, which will have a main container and three smaller containers split out below it.
Also, the brushed metal background has been updated to something more accurate and turned vertical.

As promised, crop of the top left at 100%.
Does it look like a sheet of frosted glass? I dunno. Seems like it's missing that... je ne sais quoi. Any advice?

I find that glass effects always looks a little "blah" against certain backgrounds. It could be the gray.
You might try adding a reflection or glare on the panel to liven things up a bit.
Interested to see the rest of this design!
