Interesting approach! One thing I notice is that the star is much closer to the end of the tap in the unclicked stated than when it's expanded. That said, great job!
What @Christopher said. Also, I'm not sure it's obvious to a user that clicking a half-yellow-star shape thingy is for "ratings". Perhaps a grayed out full star, or even some text?
Interesting approach. Pretty. I wonder how "obvious" it is though?
Biggest concerns would be that you can't quickly scan the ratings, and if this is used to give ratings as well then it's a bit cumbersome to drag then click.
Also if keeping the "grip lines" they should be on the left I'd think, since that's where you're most likely to drag on the slider.
Really like this! I think click or drag would be a barrier but as mentioned in your related shot, touch devices would be left out...
with the alt row colours, the lighter row has a frame around the image but the blue row doesn't. does it look too "blocky" with the blue darkened around the image as well? Hard to say without seeing the full element in position!
Yeah, @Adam makes a good point: you can't scan ratings.
This could be solved with a small star rating inline with the item rows that can't actually be interacted with. Though at that point, you might as well let people rate items in the inline ratings, which seems to be the standard at this point.
Actually the secondary nav menu allows those to sort by rating. The rating system isn't a huge part of the sites objective, however something that looks visually different or out of the ordinary makes people want to click it. In full context it might make more sense :) I appreciate everyones helpful input though.
"...however something that looks visually different or out of the ordinary makes people want to click it" Not trying to be contrarian, but I would challenge this assumption. Though, we need to leave it up to you to decide what problem this interface element is solving. Because, as you say, in context it makes more sense.
I don't have any ideas at the moment for how it would work on a touch interface, but how about the stars pop out on hovering the entire record? It would be much more obvious to the user that there is something there. I think that will be more transparent for them.

I love the concept. I wonder if it would work better on hover instead of on click. That way it might be more obvious.

I can see others' concerns.
