Last night's work! We needed to have this form ready before getting approval from our payment gateway system and we have around 25 clients waiting to sign up this week. Had to hustle to get this done last night… Some further work can/will be done but I'm quite pleased with the results so far. :)
It's clean and good looking. Things I'd reconsider:
- Italics used on the main heading.
- In each fieldset, the padding between the 1st and 2nd row of inputs is larger that the rest.
- Rework the copywriting so there are no widows.
- I used italics on the heading to give it a more "conversational" feel… I understand what you're saying though! ;)
- Nice catch. I noticed it on one of the fieldsets but, at 4am, I was like "Oh, screw it!". Thanks for reminding me as it slipped my memory… :p
- What do you mean "widows"?? #help
I'm confused on the State input. Typically in an address, you abbreviate the state. Do you want people typing in "Iowa" or "IA"?
Also, an orphan is the lonely word in a paragraph of text that is alone on its own line. In your case, the orphan you have is 'system' in the subscription box.
@Kevin, you're absolutely right! I did give an example to let people get an idea of what we're looking for. To be honest, this is not my preferred solution BUT was just a time thing: the Rails app required that and I didn't have time to write a small helper create the dynamic drop down. :)
@ both, thanks for the clarification on the copy/orphan/widows. Makes total sense and will be revised soon! You guys rock! :D

Levi: I mean “typographic widows”, the one to three words that don't fit in a line of text and break into a new one.
