I know we're a few days out from the 10th anniversary. I'm not sure exactly why I did this — only that it felt like something I should do.

  13. I remember spending the entire day watching those terrible events unfold. As we approach the 10th anniversary, I think it's important to take some time to remember and honor those whose lives were lost.

I wanted to take a moment to contemplate why I made this a little further, since my original comment felt inadequate.

I feel like this tragedy has been used by many people to promote their own ideas and causes. Bombarded with imagery of the towers swathed in the American flag, or captions with like "Imagine No Religion", or "Freedom isn't Free", all seem to channel our particular emotions to a cause, be it xenophobic, patriotic, or something else.

The focus here wasn't a building or a person or an ideology. It's a naked symbol, which takes on the meaning of the observer.

We have an immense capacity to do wonderful things for, and inflict great harm on one another.

This is simply engaging, Robert. It evokes emotion, to everyone directly, and indirectly affected by this tragedy.

A friend's father was to pilot one of the planes that fateful day. Last minute, he was asked to fly jumpseat to another LA flight instead. A day he will never forget as much as the rest of us.

    Lest we forget.
