A new logo for a Florida based female clothing designer. This is a rebrand of sorts, as the previous logo has become too 'gothic' for them. It's also too detailed to now be used to create clothing labels as well as shrinking down much smaller sizes.
They wanted to soften up previous rock and gothic look, whilst still retaining an element of coolness and attitude. After a few discussions, I advised the client to retain a few key aspects of the orignal logo. As they have been successfully reading for a few years, there is a healthy existing client base, not to mention brand awareness.
The idea is to look at simplifying the whole look, without making it look dull. So the 'cross' has been reused and heavily simplified, as well as keeping the 'script' style wording for 'malibu'.
The font is Fedra Sans Condensed. A regular condensed font made it look too 'rock orientated', Fedra has a a few nice features that soften and pimp the general look and feel.
We may yet incorporate the 'wings' as can be found in the original logo. Although this would help keep the link to the old one, it makes the logo more rocky and gothic. So I felt removing these wings helped reduce that.
It's very early days, but this is an idea the client has already partially seen and is keen on exploring. The main focus is to create a neat and easy to reproduce logomark for printing and reproducing on clothing.
I am getting a strong 'Fire Dept.' feel from the mark/color, if that's something you guys care about conveying... But it's looking great, if not 'hot' ;)
M : Yup, can see that now I have looked some US Engines, our UK Fire Service is not quite like that. Thanks for pointing that out, definitely will need to consider that in further tweaks. :)
Although, thinking about it, all their stuff is considered 'hot', so maybe a fun thing to think about playing on. :)
At first I wasn't so keen on the script typeface you've used at the top. But having seen it in place on the website I think it fits together with the rest of the logo quite nicely.
I'm missing all 'Fire Dept' references, being an English gentlemen. But I do get a 'Wax Seal' vibe about it, which ties it a little bit back to being gothic I guess!
All in all, I really like it. I think you've hit your brief nicely, and that guy is going to shrink so beautifully for clothing labels!
Pete : Yeah, I know what you mean with the script. It's one of those that ideally needs to be seen in context and also that it's having to use the previous logos elements.
Have a few more ideas for fonts, for the main wording to look at. The main focus is to create a neat and easy to reproduce logomark for printing and reproducing on clothing. So that's the aim here.
After sleeping on the first idea, I felt it lacked the 'finesse' and 'style' that we are looking to marry up with the rock and gothic vibe. It was only the first idea, so have spent 12hrs solid - looking at variations.
This idea came in around the 11hr 50min mark. :) It feels more like a fashion label, so am happier with this direction. This format could be easily applied to a strip of fabric, to run alongside the neck for example. But hopefully doesn't limit itself to just a label, should look equally respectable on a letterhead etc.
Main change being the typeface, this is much more elegant, hints more at 'fashion and style' and has a neutrality to it.
Also changed the logomark', to give the screen version a bit more depth. The client and I have yet to discuss colours, so this is by no means fixed, and could just end up being black.
