   "I'm a hack..." - Good fakin' it then. I like the old codger. I'm not sure that you need to have the light blue background go over the Cap'n. If they were layers I'd say Skipper wordmark on top, the Captain illustration, then the light blue outer stroke of "Skipper".

   Brian, Here are a couple minor ideas that might focus attention a bit more squarely on the word/illustration combo, rather than the service description. If you went this route, I'd probably center the wordmark vertically with the Cap'n. That would have just taken too long to mockup. ;)

   Took @edmullen's suggestions and made a vertical version. I like this, but unfortunately I can't figure out how to make this orientation work with the website home page. The details require make it tough to decrease it's size... so I'll have to stick with a horizontal orientation I think.
