    May feel kitschy. But I thought at the time it seemed like a good idea.

    I needed to find a way to marked a visited item while part of the shelf – so I experimented with giving it an animated "sparkle". You can check it out at boughtstuff.com by posting a new item then visiting the tweeted permalink.

    This may work better if it was for a new item from someone you were following/similar situation since the flare calls a bit of attention!

    Perhaps dim the picture unless you mouseover it if it's been visited?
