I like the second one better. I ran into the same problem recently and solved it in a similar fashion. Though we ended up going with Larry the bird for the twitter button.
I agree that they look somewhat "off", because the T and F in the logos are off balance. If you had some icons which aligned vertically I think that'd take care of the problem. Other than that I think it looks great, and the colours complement each other perfectly!
I think the problem is that the Facebook icon has a dark stroke whereas the Twitter icon has a softer stroke - it almost melds into that gray background. Perhaps try a different set of icons? Maybe something flatter/simpler like your email and phone icons.
