Much much better. Still think there is room to tweak it so it feels more part of the type. Do think using a heavier weight may solve part of that, as the spine, at least to me, still looks a wee bit heavy.
Just been checking spinal images on Google, and it appears the spine tapers to a narrower width at the top, so this could help if you flip it vertically, as the wider end seems to be at the top?
Just mocked up something based on my own 'thoughts', I just used Gotham as not sure what font you used. So didn't change much, but flipped the spin, made it a fraction smaller and a heavier font weight.
Further refinements on my identity for "Ryan Leonard". I have thickened the weight of "ryan" and flipped the spine and reversed the direction again. I think the "y" spine is feeling more part of the type now with the weight and direction adjustment.

I got some really good feedback, and I've refined the idea further and made the spine a lot less obvious and merged it more closely with the 'y'.

Think this is looking like a much better mark, Mark.

Thanks Pete! It has been a tricky one to get 'working' the way I seen the idea, but I've stuck with it and it is coming together!

Just depends on how far you want to go with it and its only my own tastes anyway. :)
