Icon Design

Developing useful, unique, and compelling icons

Illustrated icons serve the function of representing information in a simple and communicable way. They can be applied in situations that require economy of space or to facilitate visual navigation. They require distinct forms that make each distiguishable, and an illustration style that unites all as a set.

With Mid-Century Modern interior design as the subject matter, 25 icons were developed. Each icon represents a peice of furniture or home accesssory. These icons were determined to be used primarily in online shopping experiences, of which most would be on a mobile device. The use context informed the illustration style and a heavy stroke, simple line drawing style was employed to illustrate.

A pull-switch for the lamp or a drink on the side table are examples of a slight deviation from function to spur interest in the illustration.
