I agree about it needing to be tighter feeling. I tried having the circle smaller and it didn't work. I think because the font-weight of "one" is so thick that it got cramped quickly. Also I think the oval shape isn't helping the situation.
Consider the pins bigger. By 'different colors' do you mean each as a different color or just 'not blue'? The downside with a unique color for each pin is that it could work against the one church / unity concept.

Like the concept. Couple of thoughts:
I feel like the center circle could be smaller/tighter to the text and the other "pins" could be a little bigger and possibly different colors.
