First attempt at forcing myself to 'design in the browser'. Entirely CSS except for the textures and glyph. Keeping it clean to avoid the cliché of all those over-egineered calendar widgets.
We'll see where this goes.

I really like this. I'd suggest to lighten the stroke on the mini-calendar a bit and make the drop shadow on it a little more prominent (looks flat at first notice). Other than that it looks great!
i don't like the colors but all is clear to me, just make more contraste in the highlight day for other monitors.
Those are brand colours, unfortunately—not much can be done about that!
Date pickers give me the biggest headaches... Your design makes it seem much more pleasant
